Given the success Fortinet has had in the TELCO space, many of these companies are at risk of a breach due to the recent vulnerabilities found in the VPN devices they were sold if they go unpatched. Many security architects are soley focused on the user being a victim of a cyber attack by them clicking on a malicious link or opening a malicious email but in fact we are seeing more and more where devices are the target.
According to the FireEye 2019 Threat Report, the average dwell time has dropped to a mere 78 days, which is giving the adversary less than 3 months to find the critical high value assets and being detected.
Segmenting high value assets will increase the friction of an attacker's ability to move laterally inside the data center. In addition this will increase the time it will take to reach those assets if they can be reached at all.
FireEye says the group has targeted or breached organizations across multiple industries, but its focus appears to be on telecommunications and technology companies primarily, and taking a special interest in satellite communications firms.
